I come from an architectural background. I began working at BKDI Architects when I graduated from architectural school. I found myself drawn to residential construction and became an inner-city developer.
I was a land developer for approximately ten years when I transitioned into real estate. I did not intend on becoming a full-time agent; initially, I got licensed to represent myself in the properties I developed.
My first real estate client was looking to purchase a property needing renovations. They asked me what could be changed regarding the renovations. After discussing the possibilities, I realized I needed to take a look in the attic to confirm a few details. I took off my suit jacket and went into the attic. When I came down, I went over the costs and what structural changes could be made. They stared at me as though I were a ghost, and I was nervous, thinking I may have done something wrong. I asked, "Is everything okay?" They responded by saying, "I have never seen an agent go to the lengths you did or possess the knowledge you have."
