Learn more about what Buncombe County has to offer.

Buncombe County offers residents a welcoming mix of outdoor recreation, vibrant arts and culture, strong schools and healthcare resources, and a resilient local economy that supports small businesses and collaborative communities.

Buncombe County offers a distinct blend of mountain character and cultural energy that sets it apart from nearby rural communities and larger city centers. Anchored by Asheville, the county balances independent shops and art spaces with long-established neighborhoods and scenic ridgelines. Smaller communities like Black Mountain and Weaverville add their own identity, from walkable downtowns to quiet hollows with long family histories.

Outdoor life is central here. Residents head to Blue Ridge Parkway overlooks after work, hike trails at Bent Creek Experimental Forest, or spend weekends along the French Broad River Park greenway. Families appreciate resources like Buncombe County Schools and the Buncombe County Public Libraries, while the Asheville Art Museum and North Carolina Arboretum support a strong arts and education culture.

Housing options range from historic bungalows in Montford to new construction near Arden and Candler. Demand can shift quickly as buyers compete for mountain views, walkable locations, and access to commuting routes like I‑26 and I‑40. Whether you are preparing to list a long-owned family home or time a move into the area, working with the right local expert is essential. “Paul was referred to me by Chris Smith in his office. Paul was on top of everything and so helpful in showing me properties that we had identified in both Asheville and Hendersonville. There was a lot of ground to cover but I am thrilled with the results. I was Realtor in Florida for 8 years, so I know the importance of a good agent to get a good result. I was pleased with Paul's service through the entire process.”
