More About Albuquerque
Situated in the center of New Mexico straddling the Rio Grande, the city of Albuquerque lies on the north edge of the Chihuahuan Desert. Known as the sixth-fastest growing city in the nation, Albuquerque is the base for the Lovelace Respiratory Research Institute, Kirtland Air Force Base, and the University of New Mexico.
Divided into four quadrants, Albuquerque's key neighborhoods include the historic Old Town, the quiet homes of South Valley, and the upscale area of Four Hills. Large green spaces like the Rio Grande Nature State Park, the Cibola National Forest, Albuquerque Biological Park, and the Sandia Mountains provide ample opportunity for recreation including skiing and snowboarding, horseback riding, rock climbing, and mountain biking. The city is also home to the world's largest ballooning event, the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta.
Albuquerque contains a variety of museums, galleries, shops and other points of interest. Some of these include the Albuquerque Museum of Art and History, Museum of Natural History and Science, and Old Town Albuquerque. The majority of locally owned boutiques and fine dining establishments are scattered throughout Downtown, Old Town, and Uptown. Old Town features ghost tours performed by the Southwest Ghosthunters Association. Albuquerque also has a variety of live music and performance venues including; Isleta Amphitheater, Tingley Coliseum, Sunshine Theater and the KiMo Theater.
