More About Chattanooga
Located in southeastern Tennessee, Chattanooga makes its home on Chickamauga Lake and Nickajack Lake, both part of the Tennessee River. Chattanooga is the fourth-largest city in Tennessee. Chattanooga became widely popularized when Glenn Miller and his orchestra produced the 1941 gold record song, "Chattanooga Choo Choo".
The city lies at the base of the Appalachian Mountains and the Cumberland Plateau. It is surrounded by various mountains and ridges, therefore giving Chattanooga its official nickname as the Scenic City. Other nicknames include River City, Nooga, Chattown, and Gig City. Chattanooga hosts many lively attractions, such as the well known Riverbend Festival, a nine-day music festival held downtown every June.
The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga is best known for its nationally ranked Business program. Another college making its home in the city is Chattanooga State Community College. It is a two year school with an impressive student population of 11,373.
