July’s finalized data reported the typical value of a home in the city to be $281,380—down 0.03% over the previous 12 months. For comparison, county-level data pegged home values at $349,900 in Porter County for the most recent reporting period. That number is expected to float around $347,630 in August.
Portage had 53 new listings and 36 listings that went under contract in July, increasing the area’s total available inventory to 85—up 6.25% from the previous month. Inventory is projected to have further increased in August.
Of those 85 active listings, 37.65% reduced their price in the month of July. The median listing price for homes in Portage fell 3.54% from June to July, bringing the current median listing price to $272,500. Based on projected data for August, listing prices may continue to fall.
The number of days that homes have been on the market prior to going under contract rose year-over-year. In July 2025, the median time for a listed property to go pending was 13 days, compared to -2 days in July 2024.
