Lawrence County has seen home values climb notably over the past year, rising 14.12 percent. Typical homes now sit around $485,000, well above the South Dakota average of about $318,400. At the same time, inventory is down 5.76 percent year over year, even as pending sales are up 21.28 percent, reflecting stronger buyer activity.

Looking at March 2026, sellers were listing homes at a median price of $580,000, though that figure has dropped 27.49 percent from the prior month, suggesting some price recalibration. Homes are also taking longer to sell, with the median days on market up 39.53 percent year over year to about 120 days and edging 4.35 percent higher month over month.

Conditions still lean toward sellers, with a market gauge reading of 40 and about 6.9 months of supply, but buyers are gaining a bit more leverage as inventory nudges up 4.09 percent month over month to 229 listings. Around 20 percent of listings saw a price drop and only about 3 percent of homes sold above list, with an average sale-to-list ratio near 0.96, pointing to more negotiation room.
