Year over year, Halifax County’s typical home value is up, rising about 13 percent compared with last April. Median list prices have edged higher as well, with only a modest annual gain despite a sharp month-to-month jump heading into April 2026. Active listings have grown roughly 12 percent from a year ago, signaling more options for shoppers than last spring.

In the latest monthly snapshot, the typical home value sits just under $200,000, far below the statewide median of about $377,000, highlighting Halifax County’s relative affordability within North Carolina. Homes are selling faster than they did last year, with the median time on market dropping to just 10 days in April, and roughly 36 percent of properties are going under contract within two weeks.

Supply conditions show a mixed picture, with months of supply at 4.9 in April, down noticeably from a year earlier but up compared with the prior month. New listings jumped more than 60 percent year over year, while pending sales also climbed compared with last April, pointing to steady buyer interest despite softer closed sales in the latest month. Only about 17 percent of homes sold above list price and the average sale-to-list ratio is just under 98 percent, so pricing strategy matters on both sides of the table.
